Probably the first go-to group is No-Strings. This is run by Badminton England in many sports centres across the country and is a walk-in / no-booking way to get started.

The advantage is that many of the groups have co-ordinators that will in many cases help guide you. They do not do any coaching or training in these groups officially – but you may find some skilled players that will help a little.
The link to find a session is https://www.badmintonengland.co.uk/on-court/adult/
Typically this is about £5-£6 per session. Equipment is not provided.
You will need

A Racquet
I don’t recommend you over spend on a first racket. I would not spend less than £20 and not more than £40 on your first racket – after all you might not enjoy it
I am not affiliated but there are plenty to choose from here or on amazon
BADMINTON Shoes
Badminton shoes have a very low centre of gravity – I.e. thin soles. The number one serious and easy to do injury is to roll over on your ankle. This is a really bad injury and takes many months to recover from. Squash or tennis shoes might work for your first sessions. I would recommend badminton ones though

A Water Bottle
You are going to get HOT!!
- Also please bring a sense of humour and positivity – this is fun after all
- Don’t worry about shuttles on your first visit.
- Lightweight clothes that don’t restrict you to lunge, twist and reach and if you are a woman, a sports or supportive bra.
