For potential new players, let we firstly say that we are quite a broad range of ability and (although not a beginners group.
We’re lucky in that we are a fantastic group of people that get to play at a good standard. Please remember, as much as we enjoy winning and playing at a high level, we are a social group and need to continue to mix in with everyone. It’s understandable that the strongest players will gravitate towards each other. If you are lucky enough to play really really well, you will still need to play with not so strong people. We will all lose some of our games… and that’s ok!!
We play 3 courts on Thursday evenings 7-9pm – max 15 players to give a good % on the court
Court etiquette – all quite obvious but I’ll list anyway
- Be tolerant ( for example, if serves are maybe a little outside the ordinary)
- Be generous in your view of line calls, scoring misunderstandings etc
- Do not moan, groan, roll eyes or otherwise belittle another player’s shots
When to Book and Pay
- Please book as early as possible to avoid disappointment and give us time to fill any empty slots with guests
- Importantly We also need people to pay on booking,
- Please pay when you book. Otherwise admin becomes very complex.
On the Court
- Those sitting out get to choose all the players for the next game. Nobody should go back onto the court without consideration to those that have sat out and are yet to choose their game and the same 4 should not play all together in the next game
Parking
Parking is free behind the main building after 6.30. There is a convenient overflow carpark – 3 mins walk. also free after 6.30pm). map https://g.co/kgs/mYse91R
Which Courts
Thursdays we are on Courts 3,4,5 – Walk straight through reception without paying – You will pay us by bank transfer
Shuttles
- We don’t provide shuttles although we bulk buy and usually have a few tubes at our cost price of about £22
- Please always bring a shuttle to the court and so expect to use yours one approx every four games..
- We play feathers
Minimum Age
We have a minimum age of 18 (although since most of us are much older – it probably won’t appeal to under 18s). Exception for family
Liability
We play as a group of friends and not a ‘club’ so we do not insure ourselves. Players will be asked to tick that they are happy to play on this basis as they sign up
The alternative is to form a club, affiliate with Badminton England and locally and pay around £200 per year.
Cancellation
If anyone cancels and we end up players down, then attendees end up paying for them.
- A fair balance is that we allow cancellation with 48 hours notice to the start of session.
